RIVERSIDE KITCHEN LIVING LANDSCAPE

Uniquely situated on a compact corner lot overlooking the Charles River, our clients wanted a private outdoor space for cooking, dining & entertaining - while still preserving river views from their elevated house. Our solution: a crisp, modern outdoor kitchen and entertaining area thoughtfully composed with the warm contrasting materials of wood & concrete. Though a road & public footpath sit just 15’ from the dining table, the combination of a kitchen screen and a layer of native plantings creates a sense of privacy and serenity. The kitchen features a grill, integrated wood storage, generous counter space for food prep & presentation, and even a built-in bench for guests to perch upon.

On the far side of the house we capitalized on the southern exposure and designed a compact vegetable garden complete with raised beds for herbs & vegetables, trellises to espalier fruit trees, and a potting bench.

IDDLA worked with Wellesley’s Wetland Protection Committee to ensure that all improvements support the health of the river buffer, incorporating lush native plantings & permeable surfaces to enhance sustainability.
