ASTICOU SAND GARDEN RESTORATION
IDDLA, in collaboration with a COLLAB design team, partnered with the Mt Desert Land & Garden Preserve and their gardeners to document and detail essential renovations to this historic cultural landscape. Originally designed by Charles K. Savage in 1958 using plants from Beatrix Farrand’s Reef Point estate, the site required careful restoration. Stacked tile walls, viewing area seating, and paving were restored using original materials, while the curved illuminated fence, pale sand, and plantings were renovated to honor the original design’s nuance, proportion, and intent.
